The North Woods
Mountain Dwarf Fighter
Taklinn Holderhek is a Mountain Dwarf (Shield Dwarf) that had been part of his people’s army all of his life. His only aim was to protect his people’s lands from the hated Goblin, Giant, and Orc kind that threatened them daily. He followed orders exceptionally well, and was such a skilled close combat fighter that he earned the name Taklinn Holderhek as he could wrestle even giants to the ground and proceed to pummel them there. His fury and prowess was unmatched in that regard on the battlefield.
His company was not fated to last, however. During a routine patrol, a new Goblin offensive sprang into action. The Dwarven Company Commander made the incorrect call to stand and fight, surrounded and cut off from any Dwarven help in the midst of the Goblin army. Taklinn had heard the order, and was busily charging a Goblin officer where he promptly tackled him to the ground, over a slight rise and down the other side. Taklinn proceeded to pummel the Goblin officer into submission and then some. By the time he was finished, and he crested the hill back toward his companies last location… he saw only slaughtered dwarves amid a sea of Goblin corpses.
The army had passed on, rolling over the company like a river around a stone. Not a single other Dwarf remained.
The company could have retreated to a more defendable position at first contact with the Goblins. Taklinn knew this. Reinforcements could have been called with a swift scout, and a fighting retreat used to buy the Dwarven people back home time to ready themselves. But the Commander had made a mistake, and the stalwart Dwarven soldiers had heeded it to the last. Taklinn had a life changing epiphany at that point. No longer would he blindly follow orders, doing his duty without care or worry at what it would cost. He would now fight on his own terms, using his own strategies, for his own reasons. He turned away from the carnage on that field and ventured out into the world to tackle the tasks he deemed worthy of his time.
